BSA B50 ‘Gold Star’ 500SS

If in doubt, or it doesn't seem to fit elsewhere - put it here.

I still have not painted it. Too many projects!

I ordered a Vape electronic ignition for BSA.
I’m getting close to having time to work on it again- that was high on the list.

Is the new ignition a 'Wassell Vape' unit or strictly a Vape? Seems to be two different units.

I think a Vape, ‘by Wassell’.
I don’t think Vape sells one directly. Perhaps has some parts to make fit from Wassell?

The Vape on my Bul came directly from the mfg in Czech Republic. George just received one for a Husky. Shipping was about $35.00 and the price was much cheaper than from US/UK dealers.

I have gotten several direct also. But they do not have one listed for the B50.
I have one on Benelli 175, Benelli 250 twin, did another for Will on his 250 twin.
All with no battery but full lights.

Have you had time to install the Vape and try it out? I may have to get one for my DBD 34 as the old mag is in pretty bad condition.

I just put the BSA on the lift and ready to start. I had some other things to take care of first. Still going to be a day or two before I really start I think, but close.
I will try to take some pictures as I do it and documentation of wiring etc. The manual only shows how to do twins.

I got the points plate and advance mechanism removed. The replacement rotor/magnet is a taper fit also, so needs to be installed with proper timing. (Or pretty close, I think some adjustment on the plate it possible).
Trying to figure a way to mount a degree wheel was interesting. If primary case was off it would be pretty easy to use the rotor mounting nut. But I don’t want to remove all that just to set timing. So I designed a nut that would be a tight fit over the big rotor nut- then have a threaded part sticking out. The degree wheel will slip over that and another nut on the outside.

I am 3D printing it right now in PETG CF. I think it will be strong enough to turn it as long as sparking plug is out and I do not tighten the degree wheel holding nut down too much. Time will tell.

I will take some pictures of the part in place, since it likely doesn’t make a lot of sense.

This is first one- I made it a bit longer for second to make easier to put a wrench on. First try printing open wrench flexed too much- so I will make an enclosed one I think.
